My fiancé and I just had our engagement photos done by Jennica in Steveston, BC. They turned out gorgeous! I can't wait to share these photos with our friends and family. We were both nervous to do the shoot as we'd never done one before, but Jennica directed us in the poses and even took some ideas that I had and brought them to life! The photos turned out natural and beautiful and captured our relationship in a non "posey" way. Thank you so much! We will cherish these photos forever!
My husband, our 4 month old & I just had a family photo shoot done with JH Photography and we simply couldn't be happier. Jennica was great to work with, went with our ideas and infused them with her own. She gave excellent direction to ensure that we would be happy with the final product (eg. lift your chin a bit, tilt your head, etc.) without the pictures looking staged or posed. She was quick and easygoing which resulted in a nice, easy, fast shoot - not hours long and drawn out so the 2nd half of your pics are all forced smiles and crying baby :) She was also very quick to get us the edited shots. We were fortunate enough to have Jennica photograph our backyard wedding reception. She was discrete in taking many candid photos of our guests, so that the photos came off as spontaneous and natural, capturing the essence of their personalities. Without any direction from us, she made sure to artfully record many of the special details of the decor, food and location so that we will be able to fondly remember them long after they fade from our memories. She has a fun, easy-going personality that puts everyone at ease and results in photos that look less contrived and more natural. We were very happy to have Jennica as our photographer!

For my birthday my husband surprised me with a photo session with Jennica to capture the new addition to our family, our daughter Tatum. Jennica was amazingly easy to work with. She let us know what the game plan was right away so we all knew what we were doing. Which makes things a lot easier with a baby. My husband Luke was impressed with how quickly she was able to work. We were able to get a lot of great shots in, in a short amount of time (before Tatum started getting fussy and hungry). Jennica suggested Luke and I get a couple of shots in of just us – which turned out amazing too. Fun fact: she can hold a baby AND shoot perfect photos at the same time! Our pictures were edited and sent to us so quickly too. Within a couple of weeks we were already enjoying them. Over all I don’t think you can go wrong with Jennica, she works quickly and produces perfect results!
We were lucky enough to have Jennica photograph our autumn wedding. We had crazy weather throughout the entire day. It poured rain right up until half an hour before the ceremony, and started raining again just as everyone settled down inside for the reception. Jennica rolled with the weather punches and knew exactly how to take advantage of the weather, the lighting, and the scenery to give us some amazing photos! Furthermore, she got along so well with everyone and was so much fun to have around that even our crazy families were happy to stop and have their photos taken. Trust us when we say this was an impressive feat. We were beyond thrilled with the work Jennica did and have recommended her several times since and will continue to do so to anyone looking for a photographer!
My husband and I picked Jennica Hookstra to do our engagement photos because we are a both bit quirky and silly, and we knew Jennica could capture our personalities better than anyone else. We wanted our photography session to be a fun, rewarding experience and Jennica truly helped make it memorable. She advised us of a great location and put together a wonderful assortment of props with a little help and inspiration from my husband’s love of all things Star Wars and Lego-related.
In all honesty, I kind of hate having my picture taken. However, I started to work with Jennica and began to feel more confident and found it easy to relax. She was there to give guidance and direction, and was able to take a bunch of really cool candid photos too. The most important thing was that she listened to us and helped make the day exactly what we wanted!
Steph and I wanted a unique wedding filled with little touches of us embedded within the day’s celebration. Jennica took our decore and our vision and not only brought it to life with her pictures but captured it with her personal twist to create photos that are now hanging all over our walls and our families walls! She has allowed us to live that moment over and over again as she was able to capture the great times, the incredible scenery and day that we had. I had my first photo shoot with Jennica in June. It was a boudoir shoot for my hubby to be. While I can't say I was thrilled at the prospect of being half naked in front of the camera, Jennica was a constant professional and not once did I feel out of place. The final product exceeded all my expectations and gave my husband his favorite wedding present by far. I was so overwhelmed by Jennica's work that I called her up and asked for her to photograph my "Trash the Dress" post wedding shoot. I have been getting my family pictures done with Jennica every year for the past 4 years. Every year it amazes me that she's able to get both of my boys and somehow my two dogs smiling in the same picture. Her attention to detail and ability to get the perfect shots every year blows me away. About 10 years ago, Jennica and I used to work together at a local movie theater. We had recently reconnected and I found out that she was now a photographer. I could not think of a better person to take some pictures for me! I wanted have some photos of my daughter Mikayla & I for her 2nd birthday. However, I wasn't into the idea of the whole "sit down" photography studio idea. Jennica had the wonderful idea of doing some natural photos of us (father & daughter) playing together in the park. I honestly could not believe how amazing the photos turned out. Jennica was patient with my daughter and captured some stunning images. I will forever have these beautiful photos to reflect on and cherish the memories.
I recently hired Jennica for two photo shoots. One with my puppy in Sun-Yat-Sen garden and one of me doing yoga at Iona Beach. I was a little nervous at the beginning of the shoot but Jennica’s easygoing personality put me at ease immediately. I felt much more relaxed in front of the camera than I had anticipated and ended up having a lot of fun at both shoots. I had an idea of how I wanted the photos to look and Jennica worked with my ideas but also came up with poses and backgrounds that completely surpassed my expectations. What a great experience!
Jennica photographed our wedding and reception on July 1st; amazing doesn't even begin to describe the job she did. She captured countless moments and managed to make even the most difficult of family members smile through the group shots. Jennica's ability to walk into a room of complete strangers and make everyone laugh and feel comfortable is an amazing quality in a photographer. The weather on our wedding day was less then desirable but yet she managed to make every photo beautiful. Jennica is such a dream to work with. I recently did a shoot with her alongside my good friend and fellow artist Paka for some music promo in Hawaii, and Jennica really captured the perfect Island theme for us from Richmond, BC. She has a great eye for scenic shots and really made is feel comfortable. Most of all it was fun! We had such a blast. Non stop laughs and good times the entire shoot. Not only did she give us her expert imput on shots but she was also very open to our ideas and in my opinion that makes for a very satisfying photoshoot experience. I would definitely recommend her as one of my favorite photographers.

Having a vintage, outdoorsy theme is tricky enough but finding someone who understands your vision is even harder WHICH IS why Jennica is fantastic. Upon meeting Jennica, we were automatically set at ease and comforted by her patience for our fussy little one, and her professional demeanour. In spite of quite of few tears from our newborn, Jennica was able to capture some amazing photos of her, and of us as a family. Jennica took maternity pictures for my husband and me in August of 2012 and we were extremely delighted with the results! Jennica was so easy to work with and was happy to work with the ideas I had as well as make suggestions for other options. My husband and I were given the 'gift' of Jennica to capture our sweet baby girl in her first official newborn photoshoot. Not only did the pictures turn out absolutely stunning, but what was more amazing was Jennica's handling of an unpredictable new baby and two very 'active' dogs. Jennica came to my home in July 2010 and photographed my gorgeous cat Katie on her 19th birthday. I was really impressed with the way she wooed my sometimes grumpy kitty. She was patient and gentle and had a fantastic energy, letting Katie do her thing and capturing her looking natural and at ease, in her element.

I recently hosted a TD Waterhouse Discount Brokerage "Power of Women, Investing in Style" event. There were over 130 women in attendance which included a presentation by Mayor Dianne Watts and a Fashion Show by Holt Renfrew. This was a high profile evening and Jennica from JH Photography did an amazing job capturing the mood and excitement in the room through her photos. I was able to share a summary of the evening with our corporate office within a week of the event and also included photos for local media.
